The Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks, Romans, Visigoths, and Vandals have all contributed to Andalusia’s cultural melting pot through the centuries, but it is undoubtedly the Moors who made the greatest mark, beginning in the 8th century AD when they named it Al-Andalus. Today, the Moorish influence in Andalusia can be seen in everything from its architecture to its cuisine.

Spain is the world’s largest producer of olive oil, 80% of which is grown in Andalusia. You’ll learn first-hand how this “liquid gold” is produced on a small family farm in the Montilla hills. Discover the many health benefits and culinary uses of olive oil, while of course tasting the unique varietals grown on the farm. The hills of Montilla are also believed to be one of the oldest wine producing areas of Andalusia, given their own Spanish DO, Montilla-Moriles. You’ll visit a small family winemaker right in the heart of the Sierra de Montilla to taste and appreciate the best of the area’s local wines, then enjoy an authentic hands-on cooking class at the vineyard. 

Andalusian cuisine, like all the best Mediterranean food, centers on the freshness and quality of raw ingredients. Farm fresh vegetables. Free ranging Iberian pigs. Fish and shellfish brought to harbor in the morning and on your plate hours later for lunch or dinner. The most vivid way to appreciate Mediterranean produce is at local food markets where everyone from famous chefs to home cooks buy their produce daily. Trip Details

Your culinary tour will feature two authentic Spanish cooking classes. The first in Montilla at a winery farmhouse in which you will prepare a full multi-course traditional lunch, paired with their local wines. The second class during your culinary tour is in Sevilla inside the Triana food market. This 3-hour class follows a tour of the market to learn about and select local produce, then prepare a variety of seasonal dishes at the Taller Andaluz de Cocina inside the market.

  • Start your Andalusian cultural and culinary tour in central Malaga. In the early afternoon, meet your tour leader at Malaga’s María Zambrano train station and transfer to Granada, about 1.5 hours driving along the scenic Mediterranean coast. 
  • Arrive Granada and settle into your charming hotel in the historic city center. After check in and a short rest, explore Granada’s Albaycin Moorish quarter on a short 1.5 hour walking tour ending at the San Nicolas viewpoint with magnificent views of the Alhambra, Granada and the Sierra Nevada. 
  • Time to eat! After enjoying the scenery, walk with your guide to visit a few of Granada’s most authentic tapas bars. Sample a variety of traditional dishes as you get immersed in the “Granadino tapas” culture.

  • Breakfast at your hotel before setting out for the legendary Alhambra Palace in the hills above Granada.
  • Spend the morning in one of Europe’s most beautiful settings. An English-speaking art historian will guide you through this pinnacle of Moorish architecture on a 2.5 hour visit of the Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens.
  • Following the tour, enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant with beautiful views.
  • Today’s afternoon and evening are yours to explore Granada on your own. Do a little shopping, or just relax at your hotel. Your tour leader will provide you with maps, tips, and recommendations for local bars & restaurants.
  • Optional afternoon activity to visit Arabian Baths (additional cost, please inquire). This is a 1.5-hour experience at an authentic Arabian bath, designed to recreate the original structure of the traditional Andalusian Hamman which allows guests to move freely in and out of the hot, warm, and cold pools. 
  • Dinner on your own.
  • Overnight in Granada.

  • Breakfast at your hotel followed by check out. This morning you will travel to the hilly countryside of Montilla to explore local olive oil and wine production.
  • First, visit a family farm producing some of the area’s best extra virgin olive oil. You’ll walk through the olive tree groves and learn about the different characteristics of the olive varietals they cultivate as well as the health benefits and culinary uses of the oil the farm produces. See how the olives are milled to extract the precious EVOO, then enjoy an oil tasting accompanied by freshly baked homemade bread.
  • Next, move on to a local family-run winery in the heart of the Sierra de Montilla, a landscape of endless vineyards and rolling hills. Learn all about their winemaking process and of course taste several of the region’s unique wines.   • The winery farmhouse is also where you’ll have your first hands-on cooking class focused on local Andalusian specialties. Lunch to follow based on your efforts.
  • After lunch, transfer to Cordoba where you will spend the next two nights of this culinary tour through Andalusia. Settle in to your hotel before a 2-hour guided walking tour in the city’s historic city center and the San Basilio district, home to some of Cordoba’s most elaborate and hidden private courtyards.
  • Evening at leisure and dinner on your own with recommendations from your guide.
  • Overnight in Cordoba.

Exploring the Mezquite of Cordoba, visited during a culture and culinary tour of Andalusia.Day Four

  • Breakfast at your hotel before exploring more of Cordoba with a local historian on a morning walking tour of this UNESCO listed city. During this 3-hour tour you will visit Cordoba’s famous Mosque and its Cathedral, the Jewish Quarter, and the Royal Alcazar/Palace. Finish at the Julio Romero Museum ( the Old Charity Hospital dating back to the 16th century). Time to visit the museum on your own or do some shopping before lunch.
  • Lunch today is at the famous Bodegas Campos, a traditional Córdoba house with beautiful courtyard gardens and a private wine cellar.
  • Afternoon and evening on your own. If you like horses, ask about an optional evening equestrian show to see traditional Andalusian horses on display in a historic venue.
  • Overnight.

Mixed Spanish tapas on a culinary vacation in SpainDay Five

  • Breakfast followed by check out and private transfer to the fascinating Castillo de Almodóvar, a 40 minute drive. Originally a Roman fortress, the current structure was built by the Moors in 760 before coming under Catholic control by Ferdinand III centuries later. As such, it is a microcosm of Andalusian history you will learn about during a 1 hour guided tour of the castle.
  • Next, you’ll visit the picturesque town of Carmona, about 1.5 hours driving, for lunch at the scenic Parador with spectacular views across the Guadalquivir Valley. Carmona is a hidden gem known as the “shining star of Andalusia,” overlooking a fertile plain planted with fields of barley, wheat, and sunflowers.

  • Tonight you’ll embark on a guided journey through Sevilla’s cuisine and culture. Whet your appetite by stopping into two family-run taverns for a crash course in Sevilla’s unique tapas scene. Try their specialties, and of course acorn-fed Iberian ham and local wine, while your guide gives you some background on Andalusia’s iconic art form, Flamenco, and Sevilla’s place in its evolution. You’ll then head to the Santa Cruz neighborhood to see an authentic Flamenco show performed in a remarkable 15th century building.
  • Following the show, sit down to dinner in a small family-run tapas bar serving incredibly fresh tapas, local wines, and dessert. The perfect end to a magical evening in Sevilla.
  • Overnight.

  • Breakfast at your hotel before visiting Sevilla’s huge Triana food market for a guided tour and your second hands-on cooking class. Learn about fresh and seasonal local products like Andalusian olive oil and table olives, Iberian ham and other cured meats, cheese, fish and seafood, fruits and vegetables. Discover the fascinating history of the Triana Market and participate in selecting locally grown, fresh and seasonal products for your cooking class inside the market at the Taller Andaluz de Cocina.
  • Lunch to follow based on your efforts, accompanied by local wines.
  • Return to your hotel for a little rest before meeting your art historian guide for a 3-hour introductory walking tour of Sevilla’s main historic sites. The tour will include a visit to the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Sevilla, the world’s largest Gothic Church, as well as the Royal Alcazar/Palace, a beautiful example of Mudéjar architecture in the Iberian Peninsula. You’ll also visit the city’s Santa Cruz Jewish quarter, a labyrinth of narrow streets and alleys designed to provide protection from the oppressive sun of the Sevillian summer, scattered with green and lively plazas.
  • Evening at leisure to explore on your own. Your guide will provide maps and recommendations.
  • Overnight.

  • Breakfast and check out before heading back into the Andalusian countryside and the spectacular mountaintop village of Ronda set above the El Tajo gorge, 1 hour 45 minutes driving. Enjoy Ronda’s panoramas during a short walking tour of its most picturesque vistas and historic village center before moving to a boutique family winery a short distance from town. 
  • Learn all about wine production in Ronda and get to taste some delicious tapas dishes at this small winery. After a brief tour of the winery and vineyard, you’ll be seated for lunch in either the dining room or the guest house courtyard (depending on the weather). A wide selection of homemade products including bread, jams, Spanish omelette and an amazing paella are some of the dishes you will taste during this generous lunch, all accompanied by fantastic wines.
  • After lunch, transfer to Malaga and check in to your city-center hotel.
  • The rest of the evening is yours at leisure. Your guide will provide you with maps and recommendations for your final dinner.
  • Overnight.

  • Breakfast at your hotel. Leave your luggage with the concierge and head out to meet your private guide for a 3-hour walking tour of Málaga. The tour will include an orientation walk through the historic old town to help you get your bearings around this beautiful Mediterranean city and understand the past and the present of its history and traditions. Along the tour, you will get architectural and historical background for some of the most important sites of the city, among them: The Renaissance Cathedral, the Roman Theatre, the Alcazaba or Moorish fortress, the Picasso museum, the Thyssen Museum, the main squares like Plaza de la Merced or Plaza de la Constitucion.
  • End the tour with a stop at the city’s oldest bodega (wine bar) where you will enjoy a glass of local wine while learning about the region’s rich winemaking culture. This morning’s historical adventures culminate at the Atarazanas Market where you’ll enjoy a short tour of this gorgeous market and sample some local specialties!
  • Your week of cultural and culinary adventures in Andalusia ends with a farewell lunch in one of Malaga’s most authentic restaurants.
  • Return to your hotel to collect your luggage, or if staying on in Malaga, enjoy the city at leisure.

Granada: The Villa Oniria is a boutique 4-star hotel set in a 19th-century manor house. It is a short walk from the Cathedral and boasts soundproof rooms with en suite baths. Some rooms have balconies and fireplaces. The hotel also offers a high-end restaurant as well as a cafe/bar, spa, and indoor pool.



Cordoba: The Alberca Deluxe is a charming, boutique 3* hotel in the heart of Cordoba’s. historical center, just steps from restaurants and bars and within easy distance of the Mosque and Roman bridge. The apartment-style rooms are individually decorated and boast dining areas and kitchenettes as well as en suite baths. The hotel has a traditional inner courtyard as well as an outdoor pool.



Sevilla: The Casas del Arenal is a unique 4* hotel comprised of two traditional 18th-century homes that are connected through passageways and courtyards.



Malaga: The Hotel Teatro Romano is a relaxed, modern hotel located on a lively street near the Roman Theater and the Picasso Museum. The modern rooms are bright and comfortable.
