Experience Gourmet Florence Food and Wine Tours in Tuscany

The Ponte Vecchio in FlorenceThis private Florence food tour and cooking vacation brings together the city’s markets, food shops, cooking traditions, art, and nearby Tuscan wine country. Based in central Florence, the 5-night program includes hands-on cooking classes, guided food and cultural visits, Chianti winery experiences, local product tastings, and time to explore one of Italy’s most celebrated cities.

Florence is the capital of Tuscany, the birthplace of the Renaissance, and home to Brunelleschi’s dome, Giotto’s bell tower, Michelangelo’s “David,” and the renowned collections of the Uffizi and Accademia galleries. Beyond its art and architecture, the city remains deeply connected to daily food traditions, from local markets and food artisans to wine shops, restaurants, and producers.

This food tour in Florence, Italy, connects the local culture with hands-on cooking, guided tastings, and visits to the Tuscan countryside. You will prepare traditional Florentine and Tuscan dishes, sample wines from family vineyards, taste local cheeses and cured meats, and visit historic hillside towns in the Chianti area.

This private culinary vacation can also be customized with additional Florence winery visits, more hands-on cooking classes, art and architecture tours, or other activities based on your interests.

    • Time to settle in and relax.
    • Dinner tonight at a local restaurant in the authentic San Frediano quarter, on the left bank of the Arno River, about 20 minutes on foot or 10 minutes by taxi.

    Day Two

View of the David statue during your tour of Florence

    • Breakfast at the hotel.
    • This morning, meet your licensed Florence guide for a 3-hour private tour that combines the city’s art highlights with visits to local food shops and markets where Florentines buy fresh seasonal ingredients. You will learn why Florence is a top destination for Tuscany food tours as you taste local cured meats and cheeses and explore the city’s food culture.
    • At the end of the tour, your guide will drop you at the Mercato Centrale for lunch on your own. The Mercato Centrale brings together artisans who prepare and sell local specialties, making it a good place to try Florentine dishes at a fair price.
    • Afternoon visit to the Accademia Gallery to see Michelangelo’s David. The visit is not guided but includes a skip-the-line reservation. If you would like to hire an official guide, these arrangements can be made in advance.
    • Dinner tonight on your own.

    Day Three

    The Ponte Vecchio in Florence

    • Breakfast at the hotel.
    • This morning, head to a cooking atelier for your first Tuscan cooking class. The cooking atelier is about a 15-minute walk or 5-minute taxi ride from your hotel. You will begin with a guided walk to local “botteghe,” or shops, to select ingredients, a highlight of our Florence food tours. You might visit the local butcher, vegetable vendor, and cheese shop. Your Tuscany cooking class will focus on signature Tuscan recipes and include a four-course menu.
    • Lunch to follow, paired with local wines.
    • Afternoon free for shopping and independent exploration. You may want to visit the nearby Boboli Gardens or Palazzo Pitti Museum, or walk through the Rose Garden of Florence to Piazzale Michelangelo for one of the city’s most famous panoramic views.
    • Dinner on your own tonight.
    • Overnight.

    Day Four

Bottles of wine in a cellar during a culinary tour of Tuscany

    • Breakfast at the hotel.
    • After breakfast, your private English-speaking driver-guide will pick you up at your hotel for a full-day excursion in the Chianti region. Your chef will prepare pasta and typical Tuscan dishes with the group, including soups, flavorful sauces, simple sides, main courses, and desserts. Lunch will be served with Monterinaldi wines.
    • Guided visit to the wine cellar and lunch to follow.
    • After lunch, stop at the charming Il Molino di Grace winery for a wine tasting and winery visit before continuing to Greve, the capital of Chianti. You will have time to visit the village on your own. The town is associated with the explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, who is honored with a statue in Piazza Matteotti. Stroll the porticos around this triangular piazza and visit local restaurants, enotecas, and artisan shops.
    • The town also has cafés, local shops, wine stores, and small boutiques selling artisan products, wine, and clothing.
    • Return to Florence for dinner on your own and overnight.
