Now you have the unique opportunity to decompress from the stress of the daily grind during a special food and wellness tour in Spain’s beautiful Andalusia region.

Reclaim your inner peace and wellbeing while still indulging in great food and wine!

Why consider Spain for a relaxing and delicious wellness retreat? Andalusia is one of Spain’s most popular regions, with amazing gastronomy based on the Mediterranean diet and fresh, locally sourced produce. It is a sunny region, producing fine olive oils, world-famous sherry wines, and plenty of delicious dishes to savor, which you can explore during your hands-on cooking classes featuring traditional, tempting Spanish cuisine.

Your small, exclusive food and wellness tour will take place with stunning accommodations off the beaten path. Both hotels will offer a peaceful environment for your activities, which will include yuga, tai-chi, meditation, pilates, and more. Indulge yourself during your wellness retreat with spa services, massages, and Arabian baths, or get moving with cycling, hiking, or horseback riding! You will even get to sail off the coast on a catamaran and explore the pristine waters (perhaps in the company of dolphins!) while snorkeling or swimming.

Enjoying a walk through the forest during a food and wellness tour with The International Kitchen.Your 6-night food and wellness tour includes three nights in the historic old town of Vejer de la Frontera, which offers beautiful views of the surrounding Spanish countryside. From there you will visit the pristine beauty of the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and the Los Alcomocales Natural Park, both places of great natural beauty. Your wellness retreat also includes three nights in La Viñuela in the province of Malaga. It lies amongst some of the most gorgeous scenery in Andalusia, such as the man-made Lake Vinuela.

This is a perfect culinary and wellness tour to experience with friends, family, or on your own. Reconnect with nature and with yourself on this ultimate wellness tour in Spain!

Trip Details

Your two cooking classes during your wellness retreat will focus on indulging with wonderful Spanish flavors! The first class, in Vejer la Frontera, will start with a market visit before you proceed with preparing a variety of traditional Spanish dishes. The second class will be a paella-making demonstration aboard your Catamaran as you sail the seas.

Itinerary

Potted flowers adorning a village in Spain.Day One

  • Transfer from Sevilla to your beautiful accommodation in Vejer de la Frontera (about 2 hours away). Your hotel is right in the historic old town, and its hilltop position affords views of the local countryside.
  • Your food and wellness tour starts with time to relax, perhaps enjoying a drink on the rooftop terrace, or a bit of time in the whirlpool.
  • This evening, head out to a local restaurant to enjoy a delicious Mediterranean welcome dinner.
  • Overnight.

A cooking class in Spain during your food and wellness tour with The International Kitchen.Day Two

  • Breakfast at your hotel, then it is off to learn about the culture of Andalusia in the best way possible: through it’s gastronomy! You will head to the local market to select seasonal ingredients for this first culinary indulgence. Then, help prepare a delicious Spanish lunch, which might include such items as gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp), gazpacho, octopus, tuna and red pepper salad, boquerones (anchovies), Spanish tortilla (omelette), albondigas (meatballs), and more. The class will include local ingredients, a hint of Moroccan flavors, and plenty of Spanish wine! It is a fun and ideal foodie indulgence, even for people who don’t normally cook.
  • Rest of day on your own to explore the town. Light dinner tonight at the hotel included.
  • Overnight.

Day ThreeDiscover your inner calm during a yoga class on a wellness tour with The International Kitchen.

  • Start the day off right with breakfast at the hotel, then a rejuvenating yoga class led by the hotel’s professional instructor, who has more than 10 years of training in different forms of yoga.
  • Next, your food and wellness tour continues with an exploration of the beautiful countryside known as the Natural Park of Grazalema, about 2 hours away. You will explore La Dehesa Biodinámica, which is an “agro-ecological” project that focuses on educating its visitors about biodynamic agriculture and permaculture. What will you see?
Enjoying a wonderful outdoor meal with friends in Spain.

    • You can visit the animals, including Lusitano horses, cows, sheep, and goats in the wild, as well as collect eggs from the free-range chickens.
    • You can explore all areas of the farm in eco-friendly 4x4s.
    • You can visit the traditional vegetable garden and learn about their process of composting and biodynamic preparations.
    • You can admire the Lusitano horses’ strength during a rejoneo, or dressage, in the farm’s arena.
  • And of course, you will enjoy a true farm-to-table experience tasting the farm’s olive oil, wine, homemade bread, and a lunch of their seasonal, organic products.
  • After lunch, transfer back to Vejer de la Frontera with the rest of the afternoon free to relax.
  • End this perfect day of your wellness retreat with dinner in town.
  • Overnight.

Enjoying a message during a wellness retreat in Spain with The International Kitchen.Day Four

  • After breakfast, your wellness tour will take you to the Alcomocales Natural Park (about 1 hour 45 minutes away by car). Enjoy the scenic drive, and, once there, a wonderful hike.
  • Start the hike in the white-washed village of Jimena de la Frontera and then continue for about 2 1/2 hours (moderate difficulty). This untouched corner of Andalusia is named after the diligently preserved cork groves, one of the most important in the world. It gives a glimpse of what the primeval Iberian forest might have looked like: densely wooded, crossed by narrow, humid valleys (called canutos), which have been eroded over the centuries into “V” shaped valleys. Refresh both mind and body during this wonderful day in the heart of this native Mediterranean forest.Enjoying spa services during a wellness retreat with The International Kitchen.
  • Enjoy a picnic lunch during your hike.
  • Next, head on to your next home for your food and wellness tour: the lovely town of La Viñuela. The town lies near the man-made Lake Viñuela, a popular holiday spot for Andalusians.
  • Upon arrival, enjoy a bit of pampering at the hotel’s spa and reclaim your inner peace! Start with aromatherapy and contrast showers, then plunge into the Hammam to release any residual tension from your morning hike. Then, enjoy the sauna overlooking the beautiful surroundings. Finally, savor a 45-minute massage and a calming tea in the relax area.
  • Dinner this evening at the hotel’s restaurant.
  • Overnight.

A view of a picturesque street in old town of Frigiliana, Spain.Day Five

  • After breakfast, your wellness retreat continues with either horseback riding or cycling in the heart of the Axarquia Nature Reserve.
  • Option 1 is horseback riding. Your riding instructor will match with the right horse (and helmet) and will then lead you on a 2-hour ride to enjoy this beautiful region, including through the avocado and mango plantations of the area. The mountain area’s subtropical climate mean it is home to a variety of different type of vegetation than other parts of Andalusia.
  • Option 2 is cycling by the La Viñuela lake (bike and helmet provided). This easy 8.5 km trail (5.28 miles) will lead you to Las Mayoralas, in Periana, a pleasant resting place before heading back. The ride affords beautiful views of the lake, the Sierra Tejeda, and the white villages of the region.
Whichever option you choose, the morning’s wellness tour will end with a tapas lunch in a very authentic local eatery.Doing yoga on the beach during a food and wellness retreat with The International Kitchen.
  • After lunch head to Frigiliana for a guided walk of this town, which was named one of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia. Your walk will show you the village’s maze of cobbled streets, whitewashed houses, and red slate roofs, which are dramatically offset by the intense blue skies and the colorful pots of flowers.
  • You will have plenty of opportunity to take pictures of both the mountains and the sea, as well as time to shop for local wine, ceramics, or leather.
  • Finish the afternoon with yoga session on the beach, then head back to the hotel for dinner.
  • Overnight.

A view of the sea and a Spanish town during a culinary and wellness tour of Spain.Day Six

  • After breakfast your deriver will pick you up and transport you to Caleta de Velez, a busy fishing port on the Mediterranean coast. You will discover the amazing sights of the local fish market – but will not be allowed to purchase anything, since only licensed chefs or vendors are allowed to do so! The fish found at the market hails from the Alborán Sea, a passage between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean that is rich in plankton, giving the local seafood a distinctive taste. While at “La Lonja,” as it is called, witness the fisherman unloading their daily catches, which are then bid on by the local vendors and will end up in the area’s seafood restaurants and fish shops.A serving of paella with seafood during a culinary tour of Spain with The International Kitchen.
  • Next, your food and wellness tour continues with a bit of sailing and an on-board cooking demonstration! Head out on a Catamaran to see the coast of La Axarquía. You can enjoy drinks on board, as well as swimming and snorkeling (if you are lucky, in the company of dolphins!).
  • For lunch enjoy a paella making demonstration, then lunch on board.
  • Return to the hotel and time to relax before your farewell dinner.
  • Overnight.

A scene from the village of Frigiliana in Spain, visited on a food and wellness tour with The International Kitchen.Day Seven
