A Taste of Traverse City and Mission Peninsula
Currently not available, please see our similar experiences: Culinary Vacations in the Midwest.
There are a lot of reasons to consider Traverse City in northern Michigan as a destination worthy of a travel bucket list. Not only has Good Morning America named the nearby Sleeping Bear Dunes as one of the most beautiful places in the country, but magazines like Travel+Leisure and Bon Appetit have named Traverse City as a top foodie town as well… which you’ll see simply by strolling down the main street of this charming town on a bay.
The town of less than 15,000 boasts a plethora of family-run and locally-owned restaurants, as well as the home to the Cherry Republic (where yes, you can get everything cherry!), a shop focused solely on oil and vinegar, and a lovely shop/cafe that sells all sorts of food from local producers. During the warmer months, get a taste of Traverse at their fixed food truck spot, The Little Fleet.
Head just north of Traverse City, and you’ll also start to feel like you’re in Burgundy, France — which the region actually shares the same latitude with. Vineyards sprawl across Mission Peninsula, and the drive over the hilly roads is worth a trip of its own. It’s here on the peninsula that you’ll enjoy your long weekend getaway. Hosts Cindy and Jay welcome you like family to their B&B and will be your guides to this stunning part of the country. With the B&B only offering a few rooms, you’ll feel like a guest in someone’s home.
Trip Details
The hands-on cooking class and/or food and wine activities will be very much based on the season you are there. During certain periods cook with the chef of the renowned Chateau Chantal, a nearby winery estate; or with your hosts at the Inn. In the Fall, take part in the wine harvest by stomping on the grapes! Should a cooking class not be available during the dates booked, an immersion wine class and dinner will be substituted. All in all, this is an incredible experience at a one-of-a-kind property in one of the best foodie destinations in the U.S.

(During the off season alternate activities will be proposed.)
