One-Day Cooking Class in Rome with Market Visit
Enjoy this fascinating and delicious one-day cooking class in Rome with one of several skilled and personable chefs based in the ancient city. You will meet your chef in the morning or afternoon and begin your culinary walking tour to visit some of the chef’s favorite places to shop at a fantastic local Roman market (only during morning tours).
Next it is on to either a magnificent private apartment, restaurant, or food studio, each of which are situated in the center of Rome. The class will focus on teaching you a variety of techniques related to making pasta dishes. You’ll also make a full Italian meal, complete with a meat course (which can be substituted for vegetarians) and dessert, which you’ll then enjoy for lunch or dinner. This is not a class for the advanced cook, but rather a charming Roman experience capped with an authentic and delicious meal.
An afternoon pizza class is also available (without the market visit). Learn to prepare traditional pizza dough from scratch, including techniques on making and shaping the best dough, then top your pizza to enjoy afterwards for dinner!
- Morning market visit & lesson: 9:30AM to 2:30PM (approximately). Available Monday-Saturday year round.
- Afternoon pizza class: 5:00PM to 7:30PM (approximately). Available Monday-Saturday year round.
The lesson and walking "tour" with the chef set a very high bar for the rest of our vacation. It was very neat seeing a different side of Rome through their food stores, etc. and even briefly visiting his restaurant. What made our experience even greater is that it was only 2 of us. More participants would have reduced the enjoyability greatly. The dishes we prepared were exquisite and it was nice to see that it was not "cookie cutter" but the chef was making the menu based on our preferences and what was available at the time. We left "fat and happy" by the end of the night.
The pre-planning [by The International Kitchen] was very good and thorough.

We spent a wonderful day with the chef, which felt like we had a personal contact in Rome! It was awesome to hook up with a native, hear about like in Rome on such an informal basis. And then the cooking class in his private home! Our children (11 & 12 years old) had a great time and the chef was really great in making it child friendly and interesting. We are recommending this to all our friends with children!

We had a wonderful time with the chef. It felt a little rushed and I would have liked to have been involved more at the stove versus chopping and making the pasta, but overall we had a very nice experience and the food was the best we have ever had!!

I attended this one day cooking class with a group of 7 of my friends that were spending a week in Italy. We attended a day class with the chef which started with a walking tour of some of the lesser traveled areas of Rome and a trip to the market. We then went to his beautiful apartment where we cooked for several hours. We made homemade pasta and drank the wine. After all was said and done. We ate our dinner in his dining room and felt like queens. We agreed that we had an amazing week in Italy but this day with the chef was our favorite part. I would heartily recommend this experience to anyone who would be fortunate enough to attend. The office in Chicago was extremely helpful in assisting in finding the experience that I was looking for. They matched us up perfectly. They were very helpful and our reservations went smoothly.

The chef was great. The tour was nice and being able to visit his restaurant was great. He was very informative about different cooking technics and we left having great memories.

The class was small (4 people). The chef (Virginia) knew how to cook, how to teach, and had an excellent sense of humor.

We were very happy with the whole experience. I was happy that we got to see the market at Piazza Campo Dei Fiori, walk through the Jewish quarter, and see an amazing apartment in Rome. The cooking class was a lot of fun. It was hands on and despite having 10 students, we still had 3 assistants to help get everything done. The other students were from all over the world - Norway to Australia. Our appetizers and pastas were all delicious. The chef provides all the recipes on his web site; I would have preferred getting a handout.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself and ate far too much. The chef's assistant who met me to go shopping was very knowledgeable and interesting to spend time with and also very helpful. One fun moment was making gnocchi when the chef told me I had to knead and squeeze until the dough came out between my fingers while he took pictures of it. Another special time was when he and I walked to one of his restaurants so I could have a "bite" (my word) of dessert. This proved to be a not very "small" -- his word -- piece of a cake/torte of several layers of very thin pastry, lots of chocolate chunks, whipped cream and chocolate syrup. Satisfied is a weak word for an excellent experience. I might add that I chose the chef again because of the great first class I did, and also because he is one of the few who take one person for a class, and I travel alone.

Taking a cooking class in Italy was a dream of mine and this class exceeded my expectations. It gave me exactly what I wanted which was lots of ideas and inspiration for things I feel I can tackle back at home and a link to many wonderful recipes I can't wait to try.

Very nice experience! The chef was informative & helpful, venue beautiful, and the food was delicious. A good value for the experience. What could be done better? Instructions on how to get to the meeting place. I spent a lot of time googling where it was and the different ways of getting there from the cruise ship.
[Regarding The International Kitchen staff:] I have booked European one day private travel tours before with local people and the language barrier etc always made the experience more uncertain. It was great working with an organization from the US where I could always ask questions etc from someone I could understand.

_Response from The International Kitchen staff:_ We're thrilled to hear you had such a wonderful culinary experience! Regarding directions, the class voucher included a map specifying how to get there within Rome. If you ever have any additional questions regarding navigating the city, please let us know!
We thoroughly enjoyed our Rome cooking class! Even my husband, who doesn't like to cook, was able to participate and was proud of what he made. We enjoyed meeting our chef and buying produce at the market before going to the cooking loft. Our classmates were fun and the food was amazing. We also enjoyed the generous amount of nice wine that was provided. One of the highlights of our vacation!

The whole experience was wonderful. Going to the market to purchase what we would be cooking that day is always one of our favorite parts. Our instructors were terrific. They were very informative and patient with all of us. Making the 12 foot long strip of pasta was a very funny part of the afternoon.
[Regarding The International Kitchen staff:] They were all very helpful in the planning.

We booked a cooking class with Daniela in Rome and could not have been more pleased. She was very friendly and welcoming and put us at ease right away. It was wonderful to be shown around a great market area by a local Roman and then to be welcomed into her home kitchen. She was very informative and we could be as hands on as we wanted. The meal was delicious and it was fun to taste what we had prepared and learn about local food customs and histories as we prepared the meal. It just was a fabulous and unique experience and our daughter, who studies Food Science in a U.S. University just loved it! Daniela was awesome. We highly recommend her!
We booked through you the anient walking tour of Rome. That was amazing and very informative. It was the best way to see Rome in my opinion, and very reasonable. We passed up all of the lines, asked what questions we wanted, and saw everything that interested us, not just a pre canned tour.

On the private tour of Ancient Rome, our tour guide, Alvarro is an Archeology Professor at the American University in Rome. He was SPECTACULAR! Alvarro made the tour extremely engaging for both Kevin and me. On the private tour of the Vatican, our tour guide, Viviana, was an Art History major from Brazil and she spoke many languages, including English, beautifully. She was a treat!
