FAQ about Travel to Ecuador

  • Do I need any vaccinations to travel to Ecuador?

    There are no required vaccinations for visiting Ecuador if you are coming from the EU, Australia, or North America. However, certain vaccinations are recommended. The CDC and WHO recommend receiving a typhoid shot prior to arrival. They also recommend a polio booster shot for some individuals. A yellow fever shot is not necessary for traveling to the regions we offer, but it is recommended to get one if you intend to travel below 7500 feet elevation.

  • Will I need medication to treat altitude sickness?

    You may want to inquire with your doctor about altitude sickness medication prior to arrival. please note that this medication has some side effects and may not be an option for certain individuals. It is important to be aware of the increased altitude when arriving in Ecuador, as Quito is located at 9350 feet above sea level. You should drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol for your first few days if you are staying in the city, even if you are taking medication.

  • What documents do I need when traveling to the Galapagos?

    Prior to arrival in the Galapagos, you will need to purchase a  Galapagos Transit Card before flying to the islands. This can be done online through the official Governing Council of the Galápagos Islands Platform for $20 per person. There is an additional $200 per person entry fee that you will pay upon arrival at the Galapagos airport. Children under 12 are eligible for a reduced rate of $100.
