Five-Star Sorrento & Amalfi Coast Food Tour

A view of Sorrento during an Amalfi Coast cooking vacationTravel to the south of Italy on an Amalfi Coast food tour in splendid Sorrento and discover why this is one of the most popular destinations in Italy!

Sunny southern Italy is one of the most popular destinations for a cooking vacation in Italy, and the Amalfi Coast is its crown jewel. The 40 kilometers of coastline are characterized by a number of stunning towns built between the mountain and the sea. The unforgettable views and natural beauties are what draw many of our travelers to our cooking vacations on the Amalfi Coast. Add to that amazing food, which you explore during our Amalfi Coast cooking classes and first-class wine, which you can sample on an Amalfi Coast wine tour, and you have the makings of dream vacation.

Fruit stand at market during an Amalfi Coast food tour in Sorrento. The southern regions of Italy are sometimes referred to as “il Mezzogiorno,” and they have a lot to offer the culinary traveler. Our splendid Sorrento Amalfi Coast food tour focuses on the Sorrentine Peninsula, popular Amalfi Coast towns such as Amalfi, Ravello, and Positano, and the isle of Capri, which is just off the coast. Do your tastes run to shopping? There is plenty, including of hig-quality leather products, the area’s famed ceramics, and other decorative arts. Are you more of a relaxed traveler? There is nothing as wonderful as sitting on a terrace and enjoying a glass of wine while staring out over the Mediterranean Sea. Whatever your travel interests, an Amalfi Coast food tour or Amalfi Coast culinary vacation with The International Kitchen will provide the vacation of a lifetime.

Sorrento and its adjacent villages are one of our favorite destinations in Italy, perched dramatically on the cliffs overlooking the sea. The bustling main square and many restaurants (from the simple family-run trattorie to many Michelin-star options) make it a place we are happy to return to over and over again.

The food you will enjoy on our cooking vacations on the Amalfi Coast are typically southern Italian, including homemade pastas, plenty of seafood, freshly made mozzarella, and delicious, sun-drenched produce. The area is also famous for its lemons, which appear in various desserts, sorbets, and of course the famous “limoncello” liqueur.

Exploring the wines of this region on a wine tour on the Amalfi Coast means tasting fruity whites and more robust, tannic reds. Pair them with the dishes you prepare during our Amalfi Coast cooking classes and learn how to live the sweet life of the locals.

A view of the shore of Capri on your culinary tour of ItalyWhen you are not tasting fabulous food and wine on our Amalfi Coast food tours, you are off exploring the local culture. Head on a traditional “gozzo” boat to the isle of Capri for a day to explore. Explore the Amalfi Coast towns of Ravello, Positano, and Amalfi during a full-day excursion (including cooking class). Set off toward Naples to visit the ancient ruins of Pompeii, famously destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.

Whether you are a first time traveler to Italy or a seasoned expert, our Splendid Sorrento Amalfi Coast food tour will delight all your senses.

(Please note that Capri has recently instituted a tax of €100 per person to disembark at Marina Grande, payable on the spot to the local authorities. If you would like to avoid this fee, you can ask to be dropped at Marina Piccolo. If the Capri excursion is unavailable due to had weather, an alternate excursion will be proposed.)
    • Inhabited in prehistoric times, Capri was once a Greek colony and then a resort of emperors in the early years of the Roman Empire. The Emperor Augustus resided here, and Tiberius built several villas, one of which, the Villa Iovis, which is located on the island’s northeastern tip overlooking Naples, has been excavated. During the 10th century the population, fearing pirate raids, moved from seaside settlements to the present towns, Capri (east) and Anacapri (west), high above the shore.
    • In the Middle Ages, Capri belonged to the Abbey of Montecassino and to the republic of Amalfi before become part of the Kingdom of Naples. There are ruins of two medieval castles, the Castello di Barbarossa and the Castiglione, and the oldest church (from the 10th and 11th centuries) is that of St. Costanzo, the island’s patron saint. The Villa San Michele, built by the Swedish writer Axel Munthe, is on the site of a Tiberian villa. You will have time to explore the island on your own before the boat ride back.
