Our Top Cooking Vacations in Rome

The famed Colosseum of Rome.Rome is one of our favorite cities, and it hardly needs a sales pitch! Whether you have already been to Rome before or are a first-time visitor, our Rome food tours will show you an insider’s view of the Eternal City. So journey on an authentic culinary tour in Rome with The International Kitchen and experience the city like an insider!

Our best Rome food tours are customized to suit your tastes and interests, and they also allow enough free time for a glass of wine (or two!) in the piazza or a stop for a gelato break.

With more historical sites than you can imagine, our Rome culinary tours include guided visits to some of the city’s top sites.

A Bernini sculpture of Prosepina and Pluto in the Galleria Borghese.Whether your tastes run to the ancient – such as the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Circus Maximus, and the Palatine Hill – or to the ecclesiastical – with the Vatican City and some of the world’s most famous churches and religious works of art – there is plenty to explore on our gastronomic tours of Rome. And if you have already visited the most famous sites, we can easily substitute other experiences for you, such as Baroque Rome, Jewish Rome, or even sites outside of Rome like Ostia Antica or Tivoli.

So what is Rome for foodies? Rome’s cuisine is rich in pastas, meats, and delicious cheeses and breads. If you watched Stanley Tucci’s recent series, “Searching for Italy,” you will already know that the four staples in the Rome pasta world are amatriciana, gricia, carbonara, and cacio e pepe. You will learn to make authentic Italian pasta and other traditional dishes during your hands-on cooking class, which will start with a visit to the local open-air market.

Rome is worth visiting and returning to again and again… Let us plan the best Rome food tour for you on our Rome food and wine tour.

Rome Food Tours Highlights and Details

Your Rome cooking vacation will of course explore the region’s gastronomy during hands-on cooking classes and Rome food tours, including the famed pastas such as rigatoni alla carbonara and spaghetti all’amatriciana, as well as the region’s meats, cheeses, and desserts. And your cultural tours will include such amazing sites as the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and more.

FAQ BG

FAQ

  • How many days should I spend in Rome?

We recommend spending in Rome at least 3 days, but you will see only the major highlights and sights. If your total time in Italy is 1.5-2 weeks, plan for Rome for about 4-5 days.

  • What are some regional desserts or sweets that I should try for a sweet ending to my meals in Rome?

Regional desserts/sweets to try in Rome:

    • “Tiramisu” – A classic Italian dessert with coffee, mascarpone, and cocoa.
    • “Cannoli” – Pastry tubes filled with sweet ricotta cheese and often adorned with chocolate chips.
    • “Maritozzo” – A sweet Roman pastry usually filled with whipped cream.
    • “Torta Ricotta e Visciole” – A ricotta and sour cherry tart, a regional specialty.
  • Can you provide recommendations for vegetarian or vegan travelers looking to explore Rome's culinary scene?

For vegetarian or vegan travelers in Rome:

    • Look for “Pizza Marinara” or “Pizza Margherita” without cheese.
    • Try “Pasta Cacio e Pepe” made with cheese and black pepper (vegan alternatives available).
