Our Best Food & Wine Tour in Lisbon, Portugal
Explore the vibrant Portuguese capital city on a Lisbon food tour, and discover one of Europe’s most charming cities and one of the world’s hottest destinations. The city is one of the world’s oldest, which means its history and culture are richly rewarding to explore, as well as one of the largest in Europe. It provides a breathtaking array of hilly neighborhoods, colorfully-tiled buildings, narrow streets, wide, sunny plazas, and fortresses. The city’s historic center is steeped in Portuguese culture and history, and its geographic location is no accident – sitting on the mouth of the Tagus River and at the brink of the Atlantic, it was one of Europe’s most important ports throughout the centuries, in particular during the so-called “Age of Discovery.”
In addition to its pre-Roman and Roman history, the arrival of the Moors in the Middle Ages greatly influenced Lisbon’s culture and appearance. However, it was the Age of Discovery (15th to 17th centuries) that truly established the city as one of the world’s most significant, with wealth and commerce reflected in the Manueline style of architecture. This unique style blended Renaissance ideals with new discoveries from the New World, exemplified in UNESCO World Heritage sites like Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery.
A devastating earthquake in 1775 destroyed much of the city, but it was rebuilt with modern urban planning, featuring wide squares and a rectangular layout. The result is a fascinating mix of old, pre-earthquake neighborhoods and the airy, modern city that you’ll explore during your Lisbon food tour. The city’s diverse neighborhoods offer endless opportunities to discover local restaurants, cafes, shops, and iconic architecture
During your Lisbon food tour you’ll learn about the country’s culture as well as its cuisine. You will savor seafood, fresh meats, cured meats, pastries, and, of course, local wines on a dedicated Lisbon wine tour. Lisbon’s Mediterranean cuisine perfectly mirrors its rich history and vibrant lifestyle. Visit Lisbon on this authentic food and wine journey and see why it’s one of the world’s hottest destinations!
