A Culinary Adventure in Buenos Aires

The famous Floralis Generica in Buenos Aires.Argentina is known for wine and high-quality meat, and our Buenos Aires culinary tour features plenty of both. You will learn to grill asado like a native and take part in the traditional mate ritual, in which the mate tea is shared in a special cup. You will visit Buenos Aires’ Southern districts, including La Boca, San Telmo, and Palermo.

Minimal style house in Buenos Aires. Many know of Argentina’s Italian roots, but Buenos Aires is known as the “Paris of Latin America,” for which the reason will be evident upon exploring the sprawling metropolis for yourself. The stunning architecture displays plenty of French influence, and some of their gastronomic traditions do as well. Due to France and Argentina’s trade partnership, many French immigrants settled in the area during the late 19th century, thus cementing the cultural integration and exchange between both nations.

Seemingly endless waterfalls at IguazuThe lively metropolis of Buenos Aires is contrasted by the incredible natural beauty of Puerto Iguazú, where, if you choose the extended version of the tour, you will travel on day 4 of your culinary vacation in Argentina. This city is located on the north-eastern tip of Argentina, near the border with Brazil and Paraguay. It is considered a natural paradise that is notable for its incredible landscapes comprised of the imposing Iguazú waterfalls, located only 10 and a half miles away from the city center.

In Puerto Iguazu you will have the chance to take part in a dynamic selection of offerings. The natural attractions are interspersed with interesting cultural and historical experiences which combine for an unforgettable experience.

Buenos Aires Foodie Tour

  • Day 1 - Buenos Aires

Wine tasting during the Palermo City Tour

    • Private transfer from Ezeiza Airport (EZE) to your hotel.
    • Have lunch (not included) at your accommodations or one of the nearby restaurants.
    • In the afternoon, you will make your own way to the meeting point for a private half day walking tour. You will discover the highlights of the southern districts of Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina and one of the most interesting metropolises in Latin America. It’s a dynamic and cosmopolitan city with a great cultural and architectural heritage. It’s known worldwide for Tango and football, but also for its cafés, bookstores and theaters. You will start at May Square, where the Government House, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the old Town Hall are located. Then you will continue to La Boca, famous for its colorful and picturesque houses on Caminito Street. Finally, you will explore San Telmo, one of the most ancient neighborhoods in town. There you will walk around its cobblestone streets, visit the traditional market, as well as antique and design stores.
    • You have the option to add the famous Recoleta Cemetery to your walking tour for a small surcharge (+$34 per person).  The Recoleta Cemetary is located in the neighbourhood of the same name, and was once the orchard of the adjoining Basílica Nuestra Señora del Pilar – the glistening white church that overlooks the square outside. The land, which belonged to the Recollect monks from which the neighbourhood took its name, became the city’s first public cemetery in 1822. Its layout was designed by French engineer Próspero Catelin, who also designed the city’s Metropolitan Cathedral in the Plaza de Mayo. It is an eerily beautiful place, with shadowed walkways and
towering marble mausoleums rich in Art Deco, Art Nouveau, baroque and neo-gothic architectural styles, Masonic symbols and powerful religious iconography. Over 90 of its tombs are listed as national historical monuments. The most visited tombs are those of Eva Perón and former Argentine presidents Sarmiento and Raúl Alfonsín.
    • During the city tour there will be a stop at a typical café to enjoy a quick snack. The exact place & snack will depend on the tour and time of the day, but could be café & medialunas at La Ideal or Vermouth & tapas at Los Galgos.
    • This evening, you will make your way to Buenos Aires’ largest neighborhood, Palermo, for a special small group shared food tour. You will visit 4 amazing restaurants and enjoy more than 10 dishes and drinks that show the best of Argentine cuisine, including a wine tasting.
    • As you wander through picturesque boulevards and shopping districts, you will learn about the history of the neighborhood, street art and the extensive diversity of Palermo culture.

Rojo Tango is a fascinating spectacle that conquers all the senses, combining sounds, aromas, colors, movement and flavors.

Asada dish made in a cooking class.

    • Breakfast at the hotel.
    • Make your way to the meeting location for a private half-day city tour of Buenos Aires’ Northern districts. The city’s reputation for being  the “Paris of South America” will become obvious once you see the architecture of Northern Buenos Aires. With your expert guide you will visit Retiro, Recoleta and Palermo. These neighborhoods have beautiful parks, elegant avenues, residential areas with mansions and embassies and top-class designer shops and restaurants.
    • During the city tour there will be a stop at a typical heladería to enjoy their delicious ice creams.
    • Afterward, you will transfer to a private cooking workshop with Chef Paula Comparatore in a fully equipped teaching kitchen. You will learn to make the traditional Argentine Mate and some popular pastries.
    • This class will be about an hour and a half long, and you will learn about the mate ritual, its uses and Argentine customs. You will practice Cebado techniques and Tereré while you make classic Argentine sweets: pastelitos, vigilantes, flan and alfajores.
    • After your class you will have free time to explore or head back to the hotel.

    • Meet in the lobby and depart for a full day excursion to the Pampas at Estancia La Bandada.

    • While the barbecue is being cooked, there’s time to go for a walk or horseback ride around the ranch.
    • In the afternoon, you can enjoy traditional activities as a spectator, or whoever is up for it can saddle up like a real gaucho!
    • The visit will end with an afternoon snack of coffee, tea, and mate, with local pastries.
    • Transfer to the airport for an evening flight to the Iguazu Falls.
    • Check into your 4* hotel in Puerto Iguazu.
    • Dinner on your own, overnight.

    Day 5 - Iguazu, Argentina

    The legendary Devil's Throat

    • The Iguazú Falls are made up of more than 250 waterfalls located on the Iguazú River, on the border between Argentina and Brazil. The Iguazú National Park protects the Argentinian side of this area, where visitors can marvel at the breathtaking scenes of  untouched nature. They were declared a  World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984, and they were recently declared one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature.
    • A 20-minute ride on the ecological train will be followed by a walk along the trail that leads visitors to the famous Devil’s Throat; a horseshoe-shaped waterfall with an 80-meter-drop. It is simply stunning and visitors can get to know the falls through the Upper and Lower circuits. These are circular trails that connect with one another. The Upper trail offers panoramic views of the waterfalls from lookout points such as Dos Hermanas, Bosetti and San Martin. The Lower Circuit leads to the bottom of the same waterfalls,
      where lagoons are formed.
    • This evening enjoy a wonderful dinner experience with beverages included (water, wine, coffee). The Argentine Experience is a unique dining experience. You will learn about Argentine culture, taste fantastic local dishes, drink exceptional wine, and mingle with fellow travelers from around the world in a fun setting. The attentive and knowledgeable staff will walk you through the 5-course dinner where you will savor an authentic Argentine meal, paired with four exceptional wines from different regions. You will be introduced to Argentine culture, and even master the art of correctly closing an empanada and prepare your own mate.
    • Private transfer back to your hotel around 10pm.

    Day 6 - Iguazu, Brazil

    Iguazu falls from above

    • The Brazilian side of the Iguaçu National Park offers beautiful panoramic views of the Iguazú River canyon and the waterfalls. Once you arrive at the Park’s Visitors Center, internal shuttle buses will take you to the
starting point of the  walkway over the river gully. You will be able to stop at different viewpoints along this trail for unforgettable sights of the falls and the lush subtropical jungle until you get to the highlight of this visit: the other side of Devil’s Throat waterfall. From here, the stairs or the elevator will take you back to the internal shuttle bus stop.
    • Lunch on your own today.
    • From here you will transfer to the airport for your 5:05 pm flight back to Buenos Aires. (Cost of flight not included. You may be able to connect to a late evening flight back home, otherwise, an additional night in Buenos Aires can be arranged on request.)
