The Best Cooking Vacations in Brittany, France

Exploring French cheeses in a cooking vacation.Brittany is one of France’s most fascinating regions, a land of sea and history, and an intriguing mix between its history as a Celtic settlement (even its name associates it with Great Britain), and modern-day French culture. It should surprise no one that the landscape is stunning and majestic, timeless as though culled from Arthurian legend.

A peninsula jutting out from northwest France, Brittany is bordered on the north by the English Channel, on the south by the Bay of Biscay. The coast is full of cliffs, caves, small islands, and inlets, and naturally, this translates into gastronomy and Brittany food specialties that focus on seafood! Mussels and oysters are a part of life, as are many fish dishes such as cotriade, the local fish stew, which is often paired with the region’s famed cider. Brittany’s long and colorful history is readily evident in its cultural patrimony: megalithic monuments like the Carnac Stones, the many medieval castles and walled towns, and its Romanesque and Gothic churches.

See firsthand landscapes that have been inspiring awe in visitors for centuries, all while exploring the best of Breton, French, and European cuisine during intensive hands-on cooking courses on our France cooking school vacations in Brittany.

The cooking course was a wonderful experience. Our hosts were warm, knowledgeable, and helpful with whatever we needed to make our stay more enjoyable - for example by suggesting activities during our off time and providing us with directions, pamphlets, and tips on how long it would take to go to a particular place in the surrounding area and what to do once there.

Our hosts were passionate about their work and did a great job teaching you to cook delicious food that you can make at home. They are organized and thoughtful in their approach and take time and have patience for teaching (something which in my experience is an art). They are also engaging company with interesting life experiences. Their suggestions with what to do with free time were "spot on." The school is a warm and inviting space. I would highly recommend this program to anyone who is serious about learning to cook great food in a wonderful location. The gite was pleasant and we appreciated that we could walk to the school (so we could have wine with dinner).
