Tuscookany: Italian Cooking at Torre del Tartufo and Casa Ombuto

Your lively group culinary vacation will take place in one of three amazing properties, Torre del Tartufo, Casa Ombuto, or Villa Bellorcia. All are private villas in the countryside of Tuscnay, and all feature en suite bedrooms, common living areas, gardens, swimming pool, hot tub and sauna/fitness.

The culinary program includes cooking classes in the afternoons, while most mornings are free for exploring on your own. (For this reason, we recommend you have your own rental car.)

Come explore the beautiful Tuscan countryside while learning to cook with new friends!

Torre del Tartufo cooking school was amazing. Lots of cooking and lots of downtime (hiking, pool time, working out). The guests were wonderful and the staff even more wonderful. Lena and Alex (managers) were perfect and made sure we all had a fabulous time. I went with my two daughters (21 years and 18 years old). Franco was an amazing chef and really good with all different levels of cooks in our group. Everyone got personal attention from him. He was wonderful and very funny - lots of great cooking tips and recipes. Adrian at TIK helped me plan the rest of our Italy vacation (Florence, Rome and Sorrento) with hotels, trains, guides, etc. I couldn’t have done it without him.

Accommodation Information

Torre del Tartufo: This stunning villa, which dates back to before 1700, is situated in the hillside just 15 minutes from Arezzo and 30 minutes from Cortona (Florence and Siena are about an hour’s drive). But with its views that seem to go on forever, Torre del Tartufo feels like a secluded retreat in beautiful Tuscany. The villa’s name comes from the surrounding truffle estate, which is famous in the area for seeing how truffles are found and used in cooking. As for the villa itself, the owners suspect it was once a chapel that was built up over the centuries. Today, the renovated villa features top-of-the-line finishing as well as beautiful floors and marble bathrooms, while still retaining a Tuscan charm. The villa’s 120 hectare estate includes fertile grounds for truffles — due the hazelnut and oak trees — as well as apple orchards and a deer farm. The lake located behind the villa also offers stunning views of the hills.

Casa Ombuto: Situated on a hill, this Tuscan villa is in a secluded environment that offers breathtaking views of the area’s hills and villages, including the picturesque medieval town of Poppi in the heart of the Casentino valley. The villa dates back to before 1800, and today features farm-style teak furniture, large living areas with fireplaces, terra-cotta floors, open wooden beams, and marble bathrooms. The property also has a lovely private outdoor area known as the ‘piazza,’ which is shaded by four old trees, where breakfast and dinner is served weather permitting.

Villa Bellorcia: The newest addition to the group of properties is the stunning villa Bellorcia, which boasts 8 double en suite bedrooms, a large outdoor area with heated pool, hot tub, and outdoor dining area. There is also a vegetable garden.

Torre del Tartuffo was a wonderful place. The location was beautiful and the people there were great. The cooking classes were fun and interesting. i think the group of people you happen to be with has a big impact on how much you enjoy the trip and lucky for us our week had a great group of people. The day trip we took to see the sheep farm, wine tasting, and lunch at the castle was great. Melissa & Mark H.

I had to pinch myself throughout the trip to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. The villa is beautiful and the views are amazing. Franco was a wonderful teacher. His recipes are unique. I can’t wait to have a dinner party for my friends to show off what I learned. Natalie, NJ

My sister had told me to go to “Torre del Tartufo” because it was so beautiful. It was everything we expected and much much more! It was just beyond belief how good the cooking of Franco was, the villa so well designed and comfortable, the staff so helpful and friendly and of course Barbara orchestrated it all so well! Amazing holiday! Great food and all the guests got on really well. Only gripe is that on our free day, the property was pretty much deserted except for a gardener that did not speak any English...Also, some of the facilities did not work properly (eg, room safe, tv) and there was no mobile phone reception most of the time. I would like to thank Peg for her great efficiency, prompt replies and patience in getting me all the info I needed and more. I am very impressed by the level of customer service at International Kitchen and would definitely recommend this site to my friends. Geraldine H., Singapore

The chef was fantastic and made things a lot of fun. I had been expecting more demonstrations prior to starting work, but most of the time we just got right down to cooking and the Franco would come around and answer questions, and we were able to learn from others in the class too. We had a day out with excursions into the local area which was a lot of fun, but the best part was being able to get away with my husband who had just returned from deployment and relax and have fun at the same time. The Chicago staff were very helpful considering I had to make special arrangements for payments to go through which usually ended up with me missing the deadlines-very accommodating to my situation. This vacation far exceeded my expectations. Aside from it being a cooking dream, the location was a dream come true too. The website, readings everything does not do it justice. For once, I got a better view in person than on the web. I met so many nice people from all over the globe. I felt like I was at a spa. They use solar energy, the food is organic and the water was so soft, my skin and hair glowed. I would totally go back. My group was talking about doing a reunion. The staff at Torre del Tartufo is amazing. I felt like I was living and cooking in my very own Tuscan home. Amazing. Alison K.

The Casa Ombuto accommodations, instructor Paola, organization, attention to detail, setting, food quality, variety, were exceptional. The final evening and the buffett was spectacular. I think that night blew me away. Totally satisfied. I would highly recommend the experience to everyone. The International Kitchen staff was excellent. Very helpful, they made you feel very comfortable and they were so helpful. Everyone did their job with a smile. Amelia O.

The villa (Torre del Tartufo) was beautiful and luxurious, and the staff was as welcoming as they could be. Made all of us feel perfectly at home. Chef Franco was a great, patient teacher and sincerely wanted us to learn while enjoying cooking. The class turned into a group of close friends by the end of the week. Every detail was carefully planned and ensured that we could relax and enjoy the experience. [Regarding the cooking vacation packet:] Yes. Lots of valuable travel info in the packet! [Regarding The International Kitchen staff:] Yes. The Florence hotel the staff recommended for me was a good choice, too. Katherine D., MN
