Travels with Karen to Southern France

This is a somewhat “undiscovered” region in the southern area of France. Our tour will encompass the Languedoc Rouissillon region , which extends from border of Provence to the Pyrenees and the border of Spain, and Aquitane, also part of the region. Like almost anywhere you may visit in France, this region it is historically significant, scenically beautiful, very diverse, great regional food and wine, and, best of all, not overrun with tourists.

Often called “the other Provence,” it is a major area of wine production, (which we will have the opportunity to experience,) along with visits to fortified cities, medieval villages, World Heritage sites, the legendary Canal du Midi, local market visits and much more. Accommodations will be at two boutique 4* properties.

This promises to be a popular tour and participation is on a first come, first serve basis, with the exception of a prior offer to repeat travelers. Tour is limited to seven (7) participants, accompanied by Karen.

Trip Details

Your 2 hands-on cooking class will focus on traditional regional dishes and will include:

  • A class at a covered market in Séte
  • A class in Uzès


Day 1

  • Arrival in Montpellier airport or rail station and transfer to Marseillan (Around 1 hour) in a private Minibus with driver. (There will be one scheduled arrival transfer.)
  • Check-in in the hotel Domaine Tarbouriech near Marseillan.
  • Before dinner, enjoy a two hours access to the spa (cost of services not included.)
  • 3 courses-dinner (including 1/3l of wine, water and tea/coffee) in the hotel restaurant.
  • Overnight in single or double rooms of the hotel.

Day 2

  • Following breakfast departure to Carcassonne around 9:30A (around 1h30 drive.)
  • Enjoy a short free time for shopping in the center of Carcassonne.
  • Lunch today on a beautiful cruise on the Canal du Midi. Enjoy a lovely meal on board, at quiet cruise pace. This cruise includes a guided visit and a lock crossing, along with the discovery of the hauling path bordered with centennial trees.
  • In the afternoon, an English-speaking lecturer guide welcome you for the visit of Carcassonne for around 3 hours.
  • Dinner and Overnight in the Domaine Tarbouriech.

Day 3

  • After breakfast, eparture to Sète around 9;30A (1/2 hour drive.)
  • In Sète, Joe le Cooker welcome you in Les Halles for a cooking experience in the middle of the covered market.
  • After a gorgeous meal with your cooking teacher, direction to the oyster farm of Tarbouriech.
  • Discover the domain on an oyster barge on the Etang de Thau and for the bravest, you can enjoy an oyster tasting with a glass of Picpoul.
  • Dinner in the restaurant of the hotel.
  • Overnight in Domaine Tarbouriech.

Day 4

  • Take the direction of the other side of the beautiful region of Occitania.
  • Following breakfast, departure around 8:30A, luggage outside at 8:15A
  • First, visit the city of Montpellier with an English-speaking lecturer guide.
  • Enjoy lunch on your own in a wine bar or a gourmet restaurant, as you prefer. And take time in Montpellier.
  • At the end of the afternoon, on to Uzès, the 1st duchy of France for your dinner (in the city center of Uzès) and overnight in the Hotel Entraigues 4*.

Day 5

  • Following breakfast, departure around 9:00A for your second cooking class.
  • Today, Petra welcomes you to discover in a first time, the beautiful local products market of Uzès. Then, help her to buy the best products to prepare your lunch!
  • Return to her home to enjoy a great cooking time! She will give you all her secret of a Provencal lunch.
  • In Uzès, shopping is the best activity with all the local boutiques of truffles, olive oil, sweets, cheeses, art gallery, clothes, etc…
  • In this free afternoon, you will have lot to do!
  • In the evening, enjoy a typical dinner in the famous place aux herbes in Uzès.
  • Overnight in the hotel Entraigues****.

Day 6

  • Enjoy breakfast and around 9:00A departure for Nimes where you will meet your English-speaking guide in Nimes for a full morning visit.
  • Start in the Arenes, the Romanity Museum, Les Jardins de la Fontaine, La Maison Carrée and finish with Les Halles.
  • Lunch on your own in the market or in the city center of Nîmes.
  • In the afternoon, it is not possible to visit the Gard department without visiting the Pont du Gard, famous Romain bridge. So, have a stop to visit the 3rd level of this amazing monument.
  • Dinner in the restaurant Les Terrasses, in front of Le Pont du Gard.
  • Overnight in the Hotel Entraigues****.

Day 7

  • Breakfast and following departure for Aigues-Mortes, in the middle of Camargue is a beautiful city you will discover with your English-speaking guide.
  • The fortifications of Aigues-Mortes constitute a remarkably preserved military unit, the culmination of Gothic architecture. Vaults of ogives on carved capitals, gargoyles, decorations of the Tour de Constance. All contrast with the power of the defensive system.
  • Have lunch on your in the center of Aigues-Mortes.
  • In the afternoon, climb aboard the miniature train and embark upon a unique and magical ride for over an hour around the Salt Marshes. Discover how we obtain our salt from the sea and why the seawater is pink in color before the harvest. The «saunier» or salt worker, who can equally be described as the guardian of nature in such an environment will keep no secrets from you.
  • Dinner in the city center of Uzès.
  • Overnight in The Hotel Entraigues****.

Day 8

  • Today, it is the end of this south of France Tour.
  • Following breakfast departure from Uzes to Montpellier airport or rail station. (One
    Scheduled transfer.

Your accommodation in Marseillan:
