Siena – Lesson with Chef Lella

Discover Sienese cuisine with Chef Lella, who not only makes recipes that have been passed down to her by her grandmother, but also medieval recipes that feature fresh, local products. She’s a member of AICI (Association of Teachers of Italian Cuisine), among other culinary organizations. After meeting Chef Lella at her cooking school – a short escalator ride down from Piazza del Campo in the center of Siena – you’ll prepare an Italian menu of at least three courses, including handmade pasta. (Please note that part of the class may be led by one of her assistants.) A meal based on your efforts will follow, along with water and a wonderful farmhouse wine.

  • Morning class: 10AM – 2PM (approx.)
  • Afternoon class: 4PM – 8PM (approx).

Please note afternoon classes are preferred.

Please note you will need to pay the remainder of the class, 100 Euros per person, in cash directly to the chef on the day of your class.

Loved seeing the history in every day life in Europe. Old towns with narrow streets and cathedrals and churches everywhere. Our cooking class was a highlight of our trip. We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed our time in Siena. Kathy B., MI

Ours was a full day of cooking in Siena. I had used your company during a trip to Tuscany several years ago with my family and this session was equally good. We had a great time. Interaction/participation with chefs was perfect. Food was divine! Always love having the recipes to try at home. I didn't like the fact that I could not reach Lella on the phone numbers given before the day to confirm, even using our concierge as an interpreter. Your Chicago crew was very responsive, however, and handled it quickly for us. I also wasn't crazy about the fact that Lella was quite busy for a good portion of the session, conversing on the phone and meeting with a client during our class. However, her assistant Franceso was wonderful and skilled and we enjoyed working with him. The class should indicate that there might be other than the chef that is listed during all or part of the session. [Regarding The International Kitchen staff:] The Chicago staff was very responsive when I couldn't reach Lella from Italy to confirm our date. Frances S., NJ

The food we cooked was very good and authentic of the Tuscany region. Chef Lella is professional, gave good demonstrations, but also let us participate, and she gave good tips. The cooking class was given in a professional cooking school kitchen; it was spacious and very clean. Julie, the interpreter, was very good, personable and very experienced working with Chef Lella. My daughter, my niece and myself thoroughly enjoyed the cooking class, the hands-on experience and eating what we made afterwards! We were very satisfied with our experience. Regina, MA
