Maubec (Luberon) – Lesson with Chef Jean-Marc
Enjoy a hands-on cooking class with one of our favorite chefs, Chef Jean-Marc, in Provence’s gorgeous Luberon region. For years Chef Jean-Marc taught our clients the delights of French cuisine in Lyon. Now, having moved to sunny Provence, he and his lovely wife have opened a new cooking atelier in their home about 25 minutes outside of Avignon. Jean-Marc’s long list of accomplishments includes experience at the one-star L’Alexadrin, the three-star Oasis, and Paul Bocuse’s cooking school, as well as being named one of the finalists in the Best Professionals of France of 2000. We are happy to have him back!
The cooking class starts around 8:45 am, when you meet your hosts at their home for a coffee or tea before going with Chef Jean-Marc to buy local products for your class (depending on the day, the shopping will be at one of the local open-air or indoor markets). Next, head back to the atelier for the cooking class. You will prepare a three-course French gastronomic menu (two savory dishes and one dessert), and will then enjoy your creations for lunch with the Chef and his wife (wine included). The class and lunch will end around 3:00 pm.

Chef Jean Marc has a lovely home and spacious professional kitchen. Anne and I enjoyed everything we did- it was very "hands-on"- we prepared a luncheon with several courses, the highlight being a strawberry tart. We were unable to eat dinner after this enormous delicious lunch! I think that doing these cooking lessons improves my cooking at home- new recipes but more importantly- small tips in preparation really make a difference. Sandra S., MI
Chef Jean Marc is a great ambassador & he spoke English very well and connected with us immediately. There were just the two of us in the class and it lasted just the right amount of time. The class turned out to be a private lesson for my mom and I which was great. Chef Villard was a wonderful teacher - explaining technique, pushing us to fully participate and get our hands dirty! His English was superb, as was his patience in helping us through the metric systems conversions. I was a bit hesitant to book this cooking class because my family had a variety of dietary needs. However, Jean-Marc Villard and his wife greeted us at the gate of their country kitchen with warmth and enthusiasm. After we were offered coffee, pastries, and an apron we were introduced to the menu and the kitchen. Chef Jean-Marc was so kind, funny, and gentle with us. The class exceeded our expectations. I had emailed him ahead of the class with our dietary restrictions and what we wanted to learn. He was able to address both with ease and clarity. The chef answered all our questions and never rushed us through any process. We prepared a lovely meal and then sat down together with wine and dessert at a lovely table set by his wife. My young adult kids loved it, my husband loved it and I loved it.
