Lesson in Malaga at a Private Home

Try an utterly different experience in Malaga, and spend the day with a local family at their charming farmhouse, which is surrounded by olive, almond, orange, and fig trees, and which boasts a stunning patio with bougainvilleas and jasmine-covered walls. The bright and airy kitchen is where your hostess will introduce you to homestyle Spanish cuisine. Although not a professional chef, your hostess has spent her life learning the secrets of and developing a love for authentic local cuisine, and the chance to have this experience with a local family in their home is truly special.

Your day will begin at 10:30 with a cup of tea or coffee and a snack while your hostess begins the discussion of the recipes. Weather and season permitting, you will then travel out to the garden and orchard to pick some ingredients for your class: perhaps oranges, lemons, figs, pomegranates, almonds, wild asparagus, or fresh herbs . Your hostess believes in using only the freshest, most seasonal local ingredients, organic when possible. Back in the kitchen, your hands-on cooking class will focus on a starter and a main course.

As lunchtime in Spain is quite late, there will be small treats offered during the session, and afterwards you will enjoy your meal with the food just prepared, on the patio if possible, or in the kitchen by the fire during cooler months. Dessert, coffee and tea will be provided (your hosts will prepare the dessert in advance), as well as plenty of friendly conversation for the ‘sobremesa’! Your day will finish at 4:00pm.

The house is located in Malaga, easily reachable either by rental car, taxi, or city bus.

  • Available 10:30AM – 4:00PM.

We found our attractive and friendly hostess Mayte exceptionally charming and helpful. One of our daughters bought this cookery experience for my husband and myself as a birthday treat. Mayte introduced us to the garden of the cortijo where her family has lived for three generations and where olives, figs, lemons, pomegranates and mulberries are grown as well as an allotment with vegetables. The fresh food we cooked was typical of the area and using their own olive oil. The lesson was relaxed and fun. We were then able to eat the delicious food we had cooked with a glass of wine overlooking a hill of olive trees whilst enjoying conversation with Mayte. We found the traditional farmhouse with modern interior delightful - an idyllic location. This was a unique and personal experience which exceeded our expectations and we would not hesitate to recommend it, and have in fact already done so to family and friends. Norma and Paul G., UK

My mom & I had a wonderful time cooking! She has a beautiful farmhouse and is a wonderful host. I would definitely recommend this 1 day class. Her house is easy to get to by public transportation and was a great escape from the city. The food we prepared was delicious and uses ingredients that are accessible to the everyday home cook. I was happy to learn more about Spanish food culture, ingredients, and preparation methods. She effortlessly incorporated us into her home and was very accommodating with what we wanted to learn/talk about. It was such a wonderful experience! Thank you! Julie R., Armed Forces - Europe
