Gastronomy in an Italian Villa

The picturesque town of Montefalco is perfectly situated in central Umbria, where it offers a stunning panoramic view of the Spoleto valley, full of olive groves and vineyards. Cobbled streets slope upwards to the center of the town, giving way to the town’s nickname, “la ringhiera dell’Umbria,” which means “the balcony of Umbria.” It is a perfect location for an Italian culinary vacation featuring Umbrian cuisine. While known for its stunning views, Montefalco is also known for its beautiful medieval churches and its Passito, Sagrantino, and Secco wines.

From the time we arrived at Villa Pambufetti, we felt like we were part of the family! We spent our days with Alessandra in the kitchen and learned so much! She really put us to work, which we loved - learned different doughs for desserts, pizza, pasta, lasagne, some wonderful sauces and great chicken cacciatore. Her husband, Mauro was our waiter in the evenings and told us about olive oils and wines. The olive oil tasting was educational and enjoyable and the trip to the butcher was very interesting. Alessandra's 8 yr old daughter helped him time the strings around the sausages. The Villa itself was lovely and we loved our large room with high ceilings and a small balcony to look out over the countryside. I picked this trip solely on the description on the site and our expectations were more than exceeded. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who likes to cook, has a sense of humor and loves to learn.

Trip Details

Your 2 hands-on cooking lessons at Villa Pambuffetti are led by Italian-born Alessandra Pambuffetti, who speaks excellent English, and her cook Anna. At a young age, Alessandra discovered her passion for cooking while she helped her babysitter knead pizza dough. She learned the secrets to Italian cooking from her grandmothers and Chef Betulia, who cooked for the Pambuffetti family. In 1992, when the Pambuffetti family opened the villa, Alessandra cooked in the restaurant and began teaching cooking classes. During the classes, Alessandra and Anna share both Alessandra’s family culinary secrets and local folklore as you learn to create classic Italian and Umbrian dishes, including pizza and pasta.
