Cinque Terre – Gastronomic Tours and Tastings

The UNESCO World Heritage site of the Cinque Terre (‘Five Villages’) has attracted hikers to its well-trodden paths for years, and we’re happy to offer the following classes/tastings in either Riomaggiore, Manarola, or La Spezia, depending on the day of the week and the chef’s availability.

Wine, olive oil, and vinegar

During this evening gastronomic tour, visit a private wine cantina and/or local olive press for a tasting of the products. The Cinque Terre produces a number of DOC wines (such as Vermentino, Colli di Luni Rosso Meditation Wine, and Sciacchetrà), oils (such as Riviera di Ponente and Riviera di Levante), and vinegars that you may try. The tasting will be paired with regional hors d’oeuvres and traditional sweets.

Bread and focaccia

This workshop will introduce you to various types of Italian flour, slow rising techniques, and how to prepare basic dough and various breads, focacce, and biscotti. After the workshop, the tasting will include some bread paired with local wines, regional products, and crudités.

Pasta workshop

In this pasta class, you might learn maccheroni alla genovese, fidelini, gnocchi, trofie, corzetti, testaroli, or pansotti. You’ll help prepare two types of pasta along with accompanying sauces, as well as learn a sauté technique. A four-course dinner will follow and include vegetable crudités, the pastas and sauces you’ve made, dessert, and a tasting of local wines.
