Where to Stay During a Cooking Vacation? Consider a French Auberge

When you’re traveling in Europe, there are plenty of choices when it comes to choosing where to stay during your next cooking vacation. In France, in particular, accommodation choices range from the deluxe, such as a 5-star hotel or a chateau, to places that are a bit more rustic, such as a B&B. But there’s another option to add to your list: an auberge.

Simply put, an auberge is a country inn. Traditionally, they’re renovated historic homes and buildings, no matter what province of France that you’re in. In ways they’re similar to a bed and breakfast, because each room is often decorated a bit different than the next, and your hosts strive to make you feel like you’re at home. Auberges are also particularly suited toward providing guests with a culinary adventure, as many auberge owners and chefs strive to offer only regional cuisine made with local products, whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
