Some of our Most Memorable Christmas Desserts
The presents are unwrapped. Christmas dinner has been served and enjoyed. Friends and family are starting to head home. The holidays may be winding down, but we've all just created more memories that we'll continue to cherish for years to come. And since this week has been all about holiday desserts on our social media sites and blog, I thought it only appropriate to ask: what are some of your memorable Christmas desserts? Everyone I asked at The International Kitchen had an answer immediately, and they share them here.
"As a young child, at Christmas, my mother would make Divinity. This light & fluffy candy is not unlike marshmallows. It’s made with whipped egg whites and sugar syrup and usually includes pecans – either chopped & mixed in the Divinity or a whole pecan on top. Very old fashioned…. Divinity takes me back!" - Richard Davis, Group and Incentive Travel Specialist
"Christmas pudding has been a family tradition for as long as I can remember. My grandmother would make hers months in advance to let it age. When I was a kid I didn’t like it, probably because the flavors were so rich and it had so much booze in it. Though I did always like when it was set on fire! Now I definitely appreciate a good Christmas pud, the more brandy the better. " - Adrian Hall, Travel Coordinator
"Buckeyes! I'm from Ohio, so this is a traditional candy to have on the christmas cookie tray. A buckeye is actually a nut, but the candy version is a peanut butter ball dipped in chocolate. Yum!" - Peg Kern, Travel Coordinator
As for my memories of Christmas dessert? Italian cookies! My Irish Grandmother used to host Christmas Eve every year, but she always had a huge spread of cookies that she learned to make from her Italian husband's side of the family. As a kid I loved picking out at least one of every cookie to try. We also always had a box of Fannie May chocolates, and I'd very carefully chose one chocolate, because I was never sure which flavor I'd end up with! Now, with my husband's family, my father-in-law is famous in his town for his amazing handmade chocolates that he hand delivers to his friends each year. They're all delicious, but I especially love his turtles!
Now, it's your turn! What are some of your favorite memories about Christmas dessert?
