2014 Travel Predictions and Why Culinary Travel Is Still on the Rise
Year in and year out, people love to travel. But where they go, what they see, where they stay, and even what they want to eat changes all the time. All of those factors affect the latest trends, and in a recent Conde Naste Traveler article, Wendy Perrin expounded on her travel predictions for 2014.
In general, she reports, airfare will stay about the same for flights to Europe, but interest in South America will increase — and not just to Brazil where the World Cup games are being held. Places like Argentina and Peru are also now on people's travel bucket list, in part because of the wonderful food scene in places like Peru.
In terms of lodging, interest in home or boutique hotel accommodations is increasing, which is just one reason why programs like our "Cooking in the Andalusian Olive Country" trip continue to be the most popular. That also means though, as Perrin points out, that hotels are going to become more accommodating to guests by offering features like free Wi-Fi.
No matter where people go or stay though, culinary travel is still a big factor. That's because food is an important part of any culture. It tells a story — of a family, of a generation, of a history. By heading overseas, travelers can discover a unique insight into the story of food, while also discovering where all their food comes from and why it's prepared the way it is. Meeting the people who produce the food too is another huge draw.
That's why we continue to strive, and have for the past 20 years, to offer authentic culinary experiences. Our trips are not big bus tours, because we think that the best way to travel and really get to know the culture is by interacting and meeting the locals in an intimate setting. That's why many of our cooking vacations can often be confirmed for a minimum of 2 people.
