Throwback Thursday: Tuscany Cooking With Claudio Since the Beginning
Karen Herbst founded The International Kitchen in 1994 because she wanted to combine her lifelong passion for wine and food. Today that passion continues to drive her as she searches out the most unique and authentic cooking vacation experiences. But while she's constantly on the look out for new programs, some things never change, like the always vivacious Chef Claudio.
From year one of The International Kitchen, Chef Claudio found a home with us. Over the past 19 years, his Tuscan property has grown and changed with the addition of B&B cottages, but one thing hasn't changed at all: his love of teaching students in his kitchen. Karen recently visited Italy to check in with Claudio in Figline Valdarno, and she was once again reminded of what she first saw in the chef, not only passion but a gift for teaching.
The first class for Claudio is always about figuring out what everyone's skill levels are so he can tailor the cooking vacation week to those skill sets, proving that he's a master in the kitchen in more ways than one. He may run a tight ship in his teaching kitchen, but he manages to keep it real, fun, and casual, too.
And then there's the food! As it's been since the beginning, Chef Claudio makes sure no one goes to bed hungry, as course after course is paraded out. From the antipasti to the dessert, Claudio has always made sure that his guests will discover every flavor of Tuscany that he can, and every last bite promises to be delicious.
During "A Classic Tuscan Table With Chef Claudio," excursions are included as well, because Tuscany is a region worth exploring, but it's the chef that really makes this trip as exceptional as it is, year after year.
