Is the Cold Weather Getting you Down?

Today we’re feeling the bite of father Winter and are thinking about the sun and delicious food of Mexico and our Mexico culinary tours. We don’t have a large number of cooking vacations in our neighbor to the south, but what we have is outstanding, and any of it can be customized even for small groups of 4 or more.

Culinary traveler in Mexico Right now I have a hankering for the coastal itinerary of Hola Mexico, which we offer only select weeks of the year but which can be offered for custom Mexico culinary tours for a minimum of 4 people. Think grilled oysters on the half shell, Nayarit-style ceviche, and so much fresh seafood to enjoy al fresco. Not to mention the amazing cocktails you can enjoy on the beach or poolside! What is unique about this coastal itinerary is that it takes place in a small fishing village where you can feel like a local. Add to that the amazing Chef Ana, your guide, hostess, and chef, and it’s an unforgettable week.

Here in Chicago we’re big fans of Rick Bayless, one of the U.S.’s most known experts in Mexican cuisine (you’ll be hearing about our Holiday Party at one of his restaurants in a couple of weeks!). But he’s not the only top chef when it comes to Mexican gastronomy. Chef David Sterling won the 2015 James Beard foundation’s prestigious Cookbook of the Year award for this exploration into Yucatecan cuisine – an exploration he will lead you on in person if you head down to Mérida to cook with him on a Mexico culinary tour!

Cooking in Mexico Of course, if you’re looking to really enjoy Mexico culinary tours in December or January, perhaps you want simply to escape to the Riviera Maya, one of Central America’s most famous and beloved resort areas. Here you can stay at a beautiful hotel in the town of Playa del Carmen, just a short walk to the pristine local beaches, and enjoy all the food and nightlife that the town has to offer. Not only that – you can enjoy hands-on cooking classes teaching you a variety of traditional and innovative dishes from this gastronomically rich country.
