A good meal is about so much more than the flavors in the dish. It’s also about the experience, the people you surround yourself with, the conversations shared, and the stories told. And sometimes a little music to set the tone doesn’t hurt either. Some people dream about returning to a place to see its history and to walk the city’s streets again. But here at The International Kitchen? We share stories about some of the best meals we’ve had, and the meals we can’t wait to have again. All of us have enjoyed so many memorable meals, but here are just four of the ones we just can’t stop dreaming about.
“The Baffetto Pizza at Pizzeria da Baffetto in Rome. Tomatoes, mozzarella, mushrooms, artichokes, sausage, bell peppers, onion, olives, and one fried egg. Just a couple blocks away from Piazza Navona, the restaurant is small but very homey, with the pizza oven located in the center of the restaurant so you can watch them make your meal.”
Peg’s trip to Mexico for a meal
“My favorite meal in Mexico was many years ago, when I was camping in Texas with friends. We traveled across the Rio Grande by row boat and ate in a small Mexican border town. A young woman ran a restaurant out of her tiny home. It was simple fare, but talk about authentic!”

Liz’s Rock ‘n’ roll meal
“During a trip to Provence, we spent one night at Chef Reine Sammut’s lovely property. After a hearty and delicious meal — some of which we made during a cooking class — of eggplant crumble, fish, and a creamy dessert, Chef Reine’s husband got on the restaurant’s stage and sang a few American classics with the help of his band. While that was a great experience in itself, it was even better when Chef Reine asked one of the regular restaurant patrons to dance!”
