An Avid Traveler Reminisces about Her Cooking Vacation Memories
With nearly 100 cooking vacations, The International Kitchen offers so many different culinary and cultural experiences all over the world. While we often have repeat clients, there’s one client in particular who has participated in an enormous amount of our programs in the past two years alone. In this brief interview, she talks about what she’s done, seen, and why she continues to choose The International Kitchen’s culinary vacations and one-day classes.
Which culinary vacations from The International Kitchen have you done?
Amalfi Coast cooking classes and the Women Only Week through “Mediterranean Cooking Experience“, Paris cooking classes and tours, Loire Valley, and Cooking with Claudio. In October I will be going to the Umbria program in Norcia, and in December I will be participating in the Portugal program.
What are some of your favorite memories from your cooking vacations?
Here are some that come to mind:
- Drinking too much wine and laughing with some new friends I met on the tour at Claudio’s over a long dinner with too much food and wine.
- Touring a family olive oil business in Amalfi while the grandmother made fresh mozzarella and antipasti for us to snack on afterwards on the terrace of her family’s home.
- Carmen from “Mediterranean Cooking Experience” in Amalfi playing Frank Sinatra for our cooking classes.
How did you first learn about us?
Internet search and a “Sunset” magazine article.
And what keeps you coming back?
Two reasons: first the staff is amazingly competent and very responsive. Karen seems like one super cool lady, and I would love to meet her one of these days and hear her wisdom from her many travels. She clearly loves what she does and that spirit emanates through the tours.
Richard and the rest of the staff are just wonderfully capable, caring and highly organized group. Next, the culinary vacations are meticulously researched and you can tell a great deal of thought, care and planning went into each excursion, location, chef, accommodation and activity. At each cooking vacation I felt as though a real live person crafted the itinerary to maximize the experience; these are not cookie cutter culinary tours that someone threw together after some research on the Internet.
The experiences I have had at these culinary tours have been wonderful, and there is no way I would have discovered these places and characters without The International Kitchen doing a wealth of research and testing beforehand.
