About the Location: The base for this very unique Scottish cooking holiday experience is a traditional Scottish Inn, located in Glenuig in rural western Scotland. Glenuig is situated on the shores of the Sound of Arisaig and is 35 miles west of the town of Fort William the capital of Scotland’s west highland area. The highland village of Glenuig is a very small but active community in the region known as Moidart. Whilst staying in Glenuig for this holiday not only will you learn fabulous Scottish recipes you will also experience the true and wonderful nature of rural Scottish life within the Scottish Highlands.

Glenuig Inn has recently gone through a modernization and upgrading process carefully retaining its historical character and is a now a member of Scotland’s Green Tourism business scheme. The Inn is equipped with excellent facilities, fabulous private rooms, free wifi, traditional Scottish real ales and of course numerous Scottish malt whiskys [sic] – the entrance door to the bar is 50 yards from the ocean. The Inn is also used by locals, who you will meet during your stay. Nearby there are fabulous beaches, a small golf course, you will visit some of the most wonderful landscapes Scotland has to offer.

About the Cooking Lessons: Your host for this vacation is renowned chef Robert J. Buchanan. Robert is a professional chef and has had many years experience in traditional and modern Scottish cooking. Robert has previously worked in prestigious culinary establishments throughout Scotland, including Port na Craig Inn Pitlochry, the 5 star Gleddoch House Hotel and Glasgow’s famous “Number 16” restaurant. Nowadays Robert is in demand as a private chef to clients throughout Scotland’s country estates and castles, Robert’s passions are firmly rooted in the Scottish countryside where he spends vast amounts of time seeking inspiration to help him create combinations of natural Scottish ingredients for unique, traditional and modern Scottish dishes. Robert is very passionate about Scotland, cooking, and loves sharing his ideas with cooking guests.

Scottish Highlands Cooking Holiday - NEW Itinerary

  • Arrival in the town of Fort William, where you will be met by a representative, who will accompany you by private car transfer to Glenuig Inn.
  • On arrival you will be introduced to staff and other guests and have the opportunity to relax and settle in for a couple of hours. Depending on the time of year you may wish to go for a walk or cycle to explore the local area or just relax in the bar or your room.
  • Dinner will be served around 8pm where you will have an informal meeting to plan the aspects of your stay and ask any questions that you may have.
  • After breakfast, you will be accompanied to visit one of the local organic fish farms, where you be given the opportunity to view in detail how Scottish salmon is produced.
  • Lunch will be served when you return.
  • In the afternoon you may like to take a stroll or bike ride to explore Glenuig further.
  • You will meet up again late afternoon to start your first cooking session.
  • Dinner will be based on your efforts from your cooking session and will be served around 8pm in the restaurant.
  • The morning is free.
  • After lunch you will have the opportunity to visit a local smokehouse and sample some of the produce.
  • Dinner will be served around 8:30 pm at the Inn
  • Today will be centered on a guided visit to a Scottish whisky [sic] distillery, depending on the month of travel this may be an Island location.
  • Lunch will likely be picnic style.
  • On arrival back at Glenuig Inn you will have your next Scottish cooking session followed by dinner in the restaurant.
  • Today you will have the opportunity to participate in a guided visit to a traditional Scottish working sheep and or beef farm, along with some foraging in nature to discover various countryside delights.
  • Lunch will be picnic style.
  • You may wish to relax for a couple of hours and get ready for your next Scottish cooking session followed by dinner later in the evening.
  • Today will incorporate a visit to a local shellfish producer.
  • Picnic style lunch.
  • The afternoon will include further foraging in the Scottish countryside.
  • Dinner will be served around 9 pm.
  • After breakfast your morning is free.
  • In the afternoon you will begin your final Scottish cooking session, which could incorporate some recipes of your choice.
  • Farewell traditional Scottish dinner at the Glenuig Inn restaurant.
  • After breakfast you will be taken by private transfer to Fort William for your onward connection.
