Unspoiled nature, enchanting medieval villages, quiet panoramic roads, excellent food and wine: these are just a few attractions Umbria offers visitors in addition to its rich culture, art, traditions, and history. To visit Umbria is a total experience of body and soul unlike any other.
Set among the rolling Umbrian hills — very close to Tuscany — lies a farmhouse situated on 14 acres of land, just about halfway between Rome and Florence, and one hour from Perugia and Siena. A husband and wife team bought the property in 2005 as part of a dream to move into the countryside and start their own agriturismo and B&B. After two years of extensive restoration and remodeling, they opened their farmhouse, where they now grow grains, olives, fruits, and a variety of vegetables, as well as make their own olive oil. The farm is based on organic agriculture and environmentally sustainable energy, and the houses have been restored according to green building methods.
The “agriturismo” consists of two typical houses built in stone and bricks that offer eight spacious bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms that have been tastefully furnished with a combination of modern and old pieces. Hair dryers are in every bathroom, and a TV is located in the common area. Wi-Fi is available in the restaurant that is exclusive to guests of the agriturismo. The buildings are old and well-insulated, and do not have air conditioning since the weather rarely causes need for it. The big garden and the swimming pool, with its stunning panoramic view over the valley, are perfect for moments of leisure.
About the cooking classes: In the professional kitchen, a passionate Chef Gianluca will share his knowledge with you as you cook with only organic and freshly grown ingredients from the farm and local area, including the butcher who lives just over the hill. While Gianluca’s English is limited, his English-speaking Italian wife Marina will always be available. Menus will change according to the season, with a preference for the most typical local productions, such as saffron, wild asparagus, mushrooms and truffles. Dishes may include Umbrian specialties such as homemade umbrichelli, pappardelle, gnocchi, and barley soups, as a part of your multi-course meals. You will also be introduced to the secret of bread and focaccia, cooked in the old wooden-oven, exactly like people used centuries ago. Since the region is also famous for its excellent meat, particularly “Chianina” beef and delicious lamb, Gianluca will provide some precious hints on how to turn these fantastic products into delicious dishes.
A meal would not be complete without dessert and wine. You will also create delicious desserts, such a as tiramisu, pannacotta, crostata and the famous cantucci. All meals will be combined with some of the most representative wines of the region.
