About the location: Begin your adventure with your arrival in the charming town of Tavel, the site of the premiere Rosé wine in France, in the midst of the best wine-growing region in the Rhone. Its position offers numerous excursion possibilities: it is on the border of two regions—Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence—and Avignon, Nimes, Orange, and the Pont du Gard are no more than a half hour easy drive. Your base for the next four nights will be the lovely, fully renovated B&B Jardin de Bacchus. The Jardin de Bacchus has just 3 double rooms (and no double twins), guaranteeing an intimate stay, and is within easy walking distance of Tavel, just a few minutes away on foot. Tavel itself is a town of a little over 1000 inhabitants but boasts four restaurants, plenty of dining choices should you decide to stay close to home for your meals. With the Jardin de Bacchus as your base, you will be able to visit on your own some of the most interesting and characteristic towns of Provence. Your hosts Christine and Erik have an insider’s knowledge of the area and will provide you with maps and suggestions on the best routes, destinations, parking areas, and so forth, to guarantee you have an amazing stay.
About the lessons: the owners, Christine and Erik, both speak English and look forward to welcoming you to this charming corner of Provence. Christine is originally from Avignon, and she will lead you in hands-on cooking classes in their lovely, traditional Provencal kitchen. You will celebrate the fresh ingredients and delightful recipes of Provence, and will dine afterwards on the beautiful outdoor terrace (weather permitting). Don’t forget to sample her wonderful and creative homemade jams for breakfast, and if you are interested ask her to include a jam-making lesson as part of your class.
