About the location: You will spend three nights in the rustic Tuscan B&B "Fagiolari," the home of your hostess, Giulietta Giovannoni. Set in the incredibly beautiful area of Panzano in Chianti, this country B&B affords stunning views of the surrounding vineyards of the famous Chianti Classico.

The home dates back to the 15th century and has been carefully restored. There is a lovely swimming pool from which you can enjoy the panoramic view. All bedrooms have private bathrooms and feature original beamed ceilings and stone floors. There are various areas in the house and several lovely outside locations where you can relax when you are not busy with classes or excursions.

About the cooking lessons: Your teacher and hostess, Giulietta, speaks perfect English and is a former caterer and private chef. Your hands-on lessons will feature typical Tuscan cuisine and simple, yet fresh and flavorful ingredients.

Panzano-in-Chianti, Tuscany

Four Day Itinerary or Walking & Cooking Itinerary

 

Day One

  • Afternoon transfer from the Florence airport or railway station to Giulietta's B&B "Fagiolari," located amongst the vineyards and olive groves.
  • This evening, a welcome dinner with Giulietta featuring her own wine.

Day Two

  • Breakfast.
  • Meet with your English speaking driving guide and departure for a wine tour of the Chianti Senese: first stop will be to the small town of Castellina in Chianti, with remains of its medieval castle and a large tomb from the ancient pre-roman Etruscan civilization.
  • Afterwards visit a nearby winery and enjoy a tasting of the famous wines of the area including full-bodied Chianti Classicos and the famous Super Tuscans.
  • Then it is off to another medieval village Radda in Chianti. Time to explore the quaint alleyways and enjoy lunch on own with suggestions from your guide.
  • Return back to Fagiolari. In the late afternoon enjoy your first "hands on" cooking class with Giulietta and Stefania, learning how to make typical Tuscan dishes such as bean soup, pasta with tomato sauce, crostini or involtini di pollo.
  • Enjoy dinner based on your culinary efforts, local wine included. Overnight.

Day Three

  • After breakfast, meet with your English speaking driving guide for a tour of Chianti Fiorentini: explore the delightful town of Greve in Chianti with its quaint piazza. Spend time in the famous Falorni butchery and explore the many artisan shops.
  • Afterward, it is on to Montefioralle, a medieval castle village overlooking the Valley close by. Enjoy lunch (al fresco if weather permits) at Montagliari, a typical local winery-trattoria (local wine included).
  • After lunch, walk through the winery and learn more about the sweet wine—vin santo—and the balsamic vinegar ("mosto di chianti") which the estate produces.
  • Transfer back to Fagiolari. In the late afternoon enjoy your second cooking lesson with Giulietta and Stefania.
  • Farewell dinner based on your efforts. Overnight.

Day Four

  • Breakfast. Transfer back to the Florence airport, railway station, or hotel.

Itinerary

Day One

  • Afternoon transfer from the Florence airport or railway station to Giulietta's B&B, Fagiolari, located amongst vineyards and olive groves.
  • This evening, a welcome dinner with Giulietta's own Chianti wine.

Day Two

  • After a bountiful country breakfast, meet with your guide at Fagiolari.
  • Your walking tour starts in the charming village of Panzano. After exploring the village and the remnants of its castle, you will walk along a picturesque country lane which passes by vineyards and sheep pastures.
  • Your walk leads to a local winery where you will have a wine tasting.
  • Afterwards, return to Panzano with lunch on your own.
  • In the afternoon you will have your first "hands-on" cooking class with Giulietta, where you will learn how to make typical Tuscan dishes such as crostini, bean soup, involtini di pollo etc using fresh ingredients.
  • Enjoy dinner with local wine based on your culinary efforts. Overnight.

Day Three

  • After breakfast, transfer with your guide to Greve in Chianti.
  • After a visit of the quaint piazza, and a stop at the famous butcher shop Falorni and several artisans’ shops, you will be taken to the medieval town of Montefioralle, where your walk begins. You will walk through countryside lanes passing by the parish church of San Cresci, continuing down through vineyards which produce the famous Chianti Classico wine.
  • Lunch is at the typical winery-trattoria of Montagliari (local wine included).
  • After lunch, you will have time for a visit their historic winery and also to learn more about their local production of "mosto di chianti" (balsamic vinegar).
  • Transfer back to Fagiolari. In the afternoon you will have your second cooking class with Giulietta.
  • Farewell dinner based on your culinary efforts. Overnight.

Day Four

  • Breakfast, then transfer back to the Florence airport or railway station.
